The National Police Service (NPS) has dismissed reports that a lady captured on a viral video threatening to arrest revelers at an entertainment joint is a police officer.
In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, NPS spokesperson, Bruno Shioso, confirmed that the lady is not a police officer but an enforcement officer working for the Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS).
Shioso added that any claims made by the lady purporting to be an inspector contradict the law and is viewed as impersonation.

"The impression created by the clip supposes that the said lady is a police officer misusing her law enforcement powers.
"This is to confirm to the public that the said lady as portrayed is not a police officer under the NPS as believed but an enforcement officer working for Nairobi Metropolitan Services (NMS). Any claim made by her being a police inspector is viewed as impersonation of a police officer," Shioso stated.
The police service also pointed out that NPS officers, seconded to NMS, are expected to carry out their mandate in adherence to the highest standards of discipline.
"For clarity, NPS police officers are seconded to NMS to perform some specific tasks, including training, and are proudly discharging their mandate in compliance with the law, Service Standing Orders and in observance of the highest standards of discipline."
"As NPS, we therefore hold our officers accountable to such high standards to ensure efficient and effective service provision to the public," Shioso added.
In the video, the lady was spotted arguing with other revelers and threatening to arrest them on the basis of defamation. However, the basis of the argument is yet to be established.
"Do you know what I'm going to arrest you for? Defamation. I don't know you but I'll arrest you," she ranted while introducing herself as an inspector.
The lady, who appeared to be intoxicated, argued with other revelers and threatening to use her position to apprehend them.
The video went viral online with social media users condemning the lady's act and accusing the police of misusing their power.
