Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, met a hostile crowd during a campaign rally in his Kitui backyard on Friday, June 17.

The jeering crowd doused Kalonzo Musyoka's speech in clear displeasure of his attempts to campaign for area Member of Parliament and Jubilee Party candidate, Racheal Kaki Nyamai.

Kalonzo bore an embarrassing moment in his home county as the crowd openly jeered refusing to be addressed by Nyamai.

The hostile crowd refused to allow Kalonzo to speak as they heckled and jeered as he looked at the microphone in utter dismay.

Kalonzo implored the crowd to calm down but the gathering declined to be addressed by anyone else apart from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) MP candidate, Onesmus Mumo King.

Trouble started when Kalonzo defended Nyamai over the contested compensation of people whose land was taken during the construction of the Kibwezi – Kitui highway.

The crowd turned against him accusing the former Vice President of siding with the oppressor, further arguing that Kalonzo and Nyamai did not have their interests at heart.

The Wiper leader is facing a tough battle against King in the region and has threatened to have the youthful ODM MP candidate disqualified from the elections by the Independent Elections and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) for allegedly disrespecting him.

“King, even if you are in Azimio, we are going to disqualify you. Control your supporters,” a visibly agitated Kalonzo scolded the youthful aspirant as the crowd jeered him.

King addressed the crowd and managed to calm his supporters down and get the Wiper leader a chance to speak.

Nyamai complained that King and Wiper parliamentary candidate, Daniel Mutua Ndambuki, had ganged against her in a bid to frustrate her efforts to defend the seat she has held for the last 10 years.

The MP has had a tough time campaigning in the region due to the stiff competition she is facing from Ndambuki and King.
