Moja Expressway, the company overseeing operations of the 27-km Nairobi Expressway, has announced the opening of the Museum Hill Exit B to Thika Road.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the operator affirmed that users can also access Standard, GTC building and the University of Nairobi(UoN) using the exit.

The exit had been closed for maintenance purposes, despite the Expressway being opened on a trial basis in mid May.

"We are pleased to announce that the Nairobi Expressway Museum Hill Exit B to Thika Road has been opened to the public. Users can access Standard, GTC, and the University of Nairobi via this exit," the operator stated.

Museum Hill has three plazas that consist of an exit route to the University of Nairobi (UoN) main campus as well as an entrance point for motorists plying the Thika Superhighway.

The exit to the Thika superhighway was, however, not opened to the public at the time.

Motorists using Waiyaki Way can now access Thika Superhighway from The Mall,  opposite the One Africa Place Building in Westlands.

The  27.1 kilometre road consists of 11 toll stations and 27 toll plazas.

The operator has been on a sensitization campaign, urging users to register either for the Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) or the Manual Toll Collection (MTC) service.

For motorists planning to use MTC, it acts as a payment card whereby motorists will swipe at the toll stations and the fee will be deducted based on the distance covered

However, in the case of an ETC, they use a points-based system where points will be deducted from the vehicle's On-Board Unit (OBU) that was pre-installed.

Motorists are required to open an account and provide required documentation such as a copy of ID and a copy of logbook as proof of vehicle ownership.

"There are two types of subscription, individual and corporate subscription. For individuals, the documents are as stated above. For corporate subscription, you will provide a copy of the company certification, PIN, copy of the contact person and their National ID and an introductory letter. Afterward, you can buy the toll points that will be redeemed in order to use the expressway," the operator stated during a past interview.
