Azimio presidential candidate Raila Odinga has been allowed to hold a political rally inside an Administration Police camp in Dadaab, Garissa County.

Journalists covering the event on Monday, June 27, reported that the ODM leader was set to  address the rally alongside his running mate Martha Karua and Wiper Leader Kalonzo Musyoka.

Azimio supporters, however, have been blocked from accessing the camp until the two guests land at the nearby airstrip.

A video seen by Kenyans.co.ke showed heightened security ahead of the former Prime Ministers arrival which marks the seventh day since his campaigns kicked off in Samburu on Tuesday, June 21.

Dadaab is one of the most volatile areas in Kenya and has been the subject of multiple terror attacks in the past decade.

One of the worst incidents happened in December 2019 when a vehicle ferrying GSU officers hit an IED - killing 11 officers.

Besides Dadaab, the former Prime Minister is expected to visit two other sub-county headquarter-towns, first Masalani as well as Bura.

On Saturday, June 25, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga visited Mandera Stadium where he promised to boost manufacturing to complement the areas animal rearing.

Prior to his arrival, however, chaos broke out after supporters of Mandera East Member of Parliament Omar Maalim of United Democratic Movement (UDM) clashed with those of his rival Hussein Weytan of Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

No one was, however, injured during the chaos.

"Our administration will use manufacturing complemented by agriculture, livestock, the blue economy, and ICT as the key engines for the envisaged economic revolution and the apparatus for development," Raila promised during his address.

Raila had also visited the Dadaab camp in 2011 following a hunger crisis that hit the refugees at the camp.
