Kieni Member of Parliament, Kanini Kega, has accused his Mathira counterpart and Kenya Kwanza presidential running mate, Rigathi Gachagua, of being disrespectful to President Uhuru Kenyatta despite the Head of State having given him a job as his personal assistant.

Speaking in Nyeri on Tuesday, July 5, Kega claimed that Rigathi was bitter with Uhuru since the President fired him as his personal assistant when an unknown amount of money went missing.

Kega alleged that Uhuru opted to fire Gachagua after the money went missing, further claiming that the Mathira MP was behind the mysterious disappearance.

He warned that he will be at the forefront of championing for the arrest and prosecution of Gachagua over what he termed as corruption.

"You (Rigathi Gachagua) were Uhuru's PA and when you stole his money, that is when he put you on the side.

"When your brother was the governor here in Nyeri, you swindled this county. Your brother was sick. When we take the government, we will make sure you go to King'ong'o prison," Kega stated.

Gachagua's profile, according to the National Assembly's record, has the makings of someone who has served in the government all his career life. He worked as President Uhuru's personal assistant between 2002 and 2006

Kega's remarks come in the backdrop of criticism and counter-attacks by Azimio La Umoja leaders who have since criticized Deputy President, William Ruto, for hinting that he would form a judicial team to probe state capture if he wins the August election.

But the DP has assured Uhuru that he will allow him to enjoy his retirement in peace and protect him and his family.

“We have no problem with Uhuru Kenyatta, we respect him and nobody will interfere with his retirement. But I’m asking the President, with due respect, to allow me to face Raila Odinga because I am not competing with him. Uhuru Kenyatta, please, give me space I compete with Odinga," Ruto stated.

In the Kenya Kwanza manifesto, Ruto indicated that if he wins the next election, his government will initiate an inquiry into state capture within 30 days and a tribunal on enforced disappearances and violation of human rights.

This was seen as a signal that he was going after the President and how he ran the government.

Kenyans.co.ke reached out to MP Rigathi Gachagua for a comment over the allegations but the MP did not respond by the time of publishing this story.
