Kisumu governor Anyang' Nyong'o is counting losses after thieves broke into his highly guarded home and escaped with an unknown value of goods.

According to a preliminary report from Nyanza regional police Karanja Muiruri released on Wednesday, July 6, the robbers made away with assorted clothes and foodstuff.

Nyong'o's home in Ratta village, Seme sub-county is manned by two police officers who are assigned to the premises by the national government.

At the time of the raid, it is not clear whether Nyong'o was at his house.

Karanja added that the matter was recorded by Nyong'o's farm manager insinuating that the raid might have been an inside job.

Karanja says police will take statements from persons within the governor’s home, neighbours as well as officers guarding the home.

"We are investigating all angles to find out why the thieves broke into Nyong'o home which is under 24 hours surveillance by officers assigned by the government," police explained.

He added, " We are trying to record statements from all his workers and other neighbours to establish the motive and how it was the whole plan was executed."

In 2017, Kisumu county also recorded a similar incident where thugs raided the home of Ruth Odinga who was the deputy governor.

The house located in Nyahera area was broken into by suspected robbers in the wee hours of the morning.

During the raid, the burglars reportedly took away a television set and a solar panel.

Police officers in the area have confirmed the incident adding that investigations into the attack have already begun.
