Kenyan sprinting sensation, Ferdinand Omanyala, has been knocked out of the ongoing Oregon World Championships finals after he emerged fifth in the semi finals.
Omanyala recorded 10:14 seconds during the race that took place early Sunday, July 17.
The 100m champion came fifth after Oblique Seville of Jamaica who clocked (9:30), Marvin Bracy (9:93), Aaron Brown (10:06) and Favour Oghene of Nigeria (10:12).
After the race, Omanyala stated that he was disappointed with the outcome, but remained upbeat he would make a comeback in the next competitions.
"Every challenge you face today makes you stronger tomorrow. The challenge of life is intended to make you better, not bitter. Persistence and resilience only come from having been given the chance to work through difficult problems. No matter how much falls on us, we keep moving," Omanyala stated.
The Kenyan star had qualified for the semi finals after emerging third during the first race where he clocked 10:10 seconds.
On the other hand, Kenyans took to social media to support the athlete who had to overcome multiple hurdles before travelling for the competitions in the US.
Kenyans also called on the government to investigate the controversy surrounding the delays in visa processing which they stated played a part in Omanyala's performance.
"Well done Omanyala. Despite all you went through, you did what you had to do! We are proud! As for the Ministry of Sports, if what we are hearing is true, the despicable act must be investigated and action taken against those responsible," Citizen TV journalist, Willis Raburu, congratulated.
Following the delays in getting his visa, Omanyala had only three hours to prepare before his first race which took place at 4:30am on Saturday, July 17.
Despite the challenges, Omanyala, during an exclusive interview with Kenyans.co.ke hours before travelling, expressed he was looking forward to record a sterling performance during the international competition.
He disclosed that he had received encouraging messages from Kenyans and fans from all over the world following his visa debacle.
"Just received advice from American legend Michael Johnson. I am more motivated," he stated.
