Azimio Deputy Presidential candidate Martha Karua on Sunday, July 31, responded to claims by Deputy President William Ruto that his children were in danger over his political positions.

Speaking during a rally in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, Karua stated that Ruto was guarded by more than 276 bodyguards who were more than enough to protect him and his family.

She further accused the UDA presidential candidate of causing panic in the country with unfounded allegations that some people had planned to hurt him and his family.

“I know the Deputy President has more than 276 bodyguards, I pray that I will get that office next week, and if you feel any of your family members are in danger, assign one of your many guards to protect them.

"If they are still not enough ask for more security because you are still the Deputy President, don't create tension in the country by lying that your family is in danger," the Narc Kenya boss stated.

The Azimio presidential running mate warned all politicians to be careful with their public utterances to avoid creating tension that may lead to violence in the country ahead of the August polls.

Karua reiterated President Uhuru Kenyatta's statement earlier on Sunday where he indicated that he had persevered against attacks from his deputy and his allies but had chosen not to act against them.

"You have been insulting your boss for a while now and nothing has happened to you and your people. Stop lying to Kenyans at a time when the country is approaching an election," she remarked.

Ruto had on Friday asked President Uhuru not to harm his children but deal with their political differences man to man

Karua called on Uasin Gishu residents to vote for candidates who were ready to fight corruption and not make the election about personalities.

“This election is not about Raila or Martha. You are the one who is voting and if you vote for truthful candidates you will have protected your security, money, and promises,” the Azimio deputy captain implored.

She spoke in the company of Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga, Agriculture CS Peter Munya, COTU boss Francis Atwoli among other leaders.

Raila used the moment to unveil his Azimio team for the North Rift region as he engaged voters in a charm offensive marked by rallies in Kapsabet and Eldoret towns.

He also urged voters in the region not to be intimidated against exercising their democratic rights - noting that President Uhuru Kenyatta's administration was keen to ensure peace and stability during the election.
