A family is mourning the death of its four kin who succumbed following a road crash at Kenol area along the busy Nyeri - Nairobi highway in Murang'a county.
A report by The Standard indicated that the accident occurred on the morning of Saturday, August 6.
The four passed away on the spot after the vehicle they were travelling in, a Mazda station wagon, hit a truck that had stopped by the roadside.
They were aged between 16 years and 60 years and their bodies were transferred to the General Kago Funeral Home.Undated image of detectives at a crime scene in Nairobi, KenyaFile
One woman aged 60 years, however, survived the crash and was rushed to the Thika Level Five Hospital where she is receiving treatment.
The accident expounds the rate of fatalities from road crashes that have been on the rise since the campaigns period hit fever pitch.
Statistics by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) indicate that 1,912 people have died in road accidents since January 1, 2022, representing a nine per cent increase from last year's 1,754.
The accidents come amid a series of campaigns by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) to reduce road carnages.
In June 2022, NTSA set a date for unveiling the Integrated Transport Management System (ITMS) that would be used in minimising accidents across the country.
On Thursday, August 4, four people died after a car ferrying Lunga Lunga Member of Parliament, Khatib Mwashetani's aides was involved in an accident.
At the time, reports indicated that the driver lost control of the vehicle after a tyre burst as he was speeding along Likoni - Lunga Lunga road.
The four victims who passed on were members of Mwashetani's campaign team and were on their way to popularise his candidature.Photo collage of Lunga Lunga MP Khatib Mwashetani's Campaign car involved in an accident on Thursday, August 4, 2022.Samba 254accident died fatal death crash killed probe
