The late Hellen Wendy Nyabuto's father, John Nyabuto, could not contain his emotions while narrating the tragic death of his daughter in a swimming pool accident in Canada.

In an interview with Citizen TV on Sunday, August 21, John Nyabuto pleaded with well-wishers to help the family fly her body back for a befitting sendoff.

The father eulogised Wendy as a hardworking daughter who had stepped in to help him with educating her siblings through a work study programme in the North American country.

"She flew to Canada and arrived safely. She went there with the aim of advancing her studies. She worked at a hospital in Canada as she had told me earlier.

"I was so happy because God had answered my prayer but now she has left us and I do not know who will help me," John told the press amidst sobs.

Wendy's mother noted that the family had kept constant communication with Wendy although they had not seen her in person for five years.

"I have lost my daughter who loved me so much. It is now about four or five years we have not seen each other but we talked on phone all the time," she affirmed.

In an earlier interview, John, a father of six, stated that he learnt about Wendy's death on Thursday evening, August 18, after he received a text message from her friend informing him that his daughter had drowned in a swimming pool.

In the evening, Canadian authorities called Nyabuto to inform him that Wendy was rushed to the hospital and was receiving treatment.

Hellen Wendy, was in a jovial mood while interacting with her friends on Facebook before the tragedy struck. She had swam for 10 minutes.

Just 10:33 minutes, after she began recording herself, Wendy started gasping for air and could be heard making gurgling sounds while kicking and screaming.

At 11:54 minutes she made the last sound as the video went silent and the water remained still. She was discovered three hours later.
