Outgoing Cabinet Secretary Prof George Mahoha on Monday, August 22, launched the upgraded version of the National Education Management Information System (NEMIS) that will allow seamless navigation.
According to the CS, the system has been revamped to accommodate parents, teachers and school directors. It now has different functions ranging from school transfer, a children's performance and management of school infrastructures.
The unveiling came against the backdrop of the ongoing rollout of the Competence Based-Curriculum (CBC) that has taken shape with Grade 6 pupils set for their final exams at the end of 2022. The national test will pave way for the learners to join Junior Secondary School.
"The system introduces lots of benefits to our users including but not limited to, the on-boarding of new and improved processes from different directorates for instance learner transfers, school registration.
The system also looks to refine already existing system processes such as capitation management processes. With its upgraded server infrastructure and improved system architecture, the system serves to strengthen the user experience of our users," Prof. Magoha said in a statement to newsrooms.
How to Navigate The Upgraded System
According to Prof. Magoha, parents will be able to initiate transfers of their children from one school to another.
This will ensure efficiency of the Learner Transfer Process by saving the parents, school heads and principals, together with the Directors of education override the traditional manual application of the transfer process.
Parent will also be able to login to the NEMIS website and apply for bursaries and scholarships for their children on the system.
How To Access NEMIS portal
You will be required to register as a new user by visiting the NEMIS website via nemis(dot)education(dot)go(dot)ke - Details required will be user name, gender, ID number, title or position held, responsibilities, email address, and mobile number.
After which you will be required to enter new password to complete the registration exercise.
By signing up, parents will also be able to monitor their children’s performance remotely at the comfort of your living room or office.
With Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) integration, management of Learner Performance will be a real-time process, giving parents a better reflection of their children’s academic progress.
Finally, parents will have correct reflection of their children’s results at any one time.
The selection and registration process will only limited to Grade 3 for the Age-Based pathway or at Foundation and Intermediate for Stage Based pathway.
Infrastructure management by head teachers has also been facilitated on the system to aid the Ministry of Education in the management of their infrastructural projects.
Institutions in NEMIS will also be associated with Geospatial data, informing project monitoring efforts and facilitating project planning efforts.
"With this launch, the Ministry now looks to incorporate more processes from other directorates and departments within the Ministry."
