Outgoing Makueni Governor Kivutha Kibwana has joined the Kenya Kwanza Alliance led by President-Elect William Ruto.

Prof Kibwana joined Kenya Kwanza and held a meeting with Ruto at his Karen residence on Tuesday, August 23.

Kenyans.co.ke on Tuesday, August 23, learnt that Prof Kibwana will also be part of Ruto's legal team in the presidential petition that was filed at the Supreme Court of Kenya.

"We associate with the leadership that Prof Kivutha Kibwana has manifested in agreeing to work with us in furthering our country’s development agenda," DP Ruto stated after the meeting.

"The Makueni Governor will join the Kenya Kwanza legal team in the ongoing presidential election petition. At the Karen Residence, welcomed Governor Kibwana to Kenya Kwanza accompanied by other leaders," he added.

Ruto vowed to raid Azimio La Umoja and recruit its members and key leaders in a bid to consolidate his team in the National Assembly and Senate.

Speaking to Kenya Kwanza leaders at his Karen residence, on August 20, Ruto stated that he recruited UDM members and independent MPs-elect to his side so as to garner numbers and pass laws that will help him in delivering the campaign promises.

He noted that he needed the numbers in the National Assembly so that the MPs can pass laws that will unlock funding for projects such as the Hustler Fund that he promised to Kenyans during his campaigns.

The president-elect further noted that he has a profound legislative agenda and wants to get the leverage to drive his agenda in the National Assembly.

"Many people are wondering why we are consolidating our place in the National Assembly and the Senate, but you need to understand we have a huge responsibility ahead of us. We need a lot of policy decisions to be made and legislative interventions to be made and we need the team that will help us deliver on the pledges we made to the people of Kenya," Ruto stated.

"We are consolidating the team that will help us prosecute our policy agenda in Parliament so that we can do that which we must do for the people of Kenya. Having numbers gives us leverage."

But his plans rattled Raila Odinga's Presidential Campaign Secretariat spokesperson, Makau Mutua, who accused Ruto of plotting to take the country back to the dictatorial KANU days when Kenya was a one-party state.

No Azimio constituent party, the scholar stated, had formally invoked the process of leaving the coalition, hence any purported defections were null and void.
