During the accident, the pupil, the school driver and a pedestrian lost their lives. Those who sustained injuries were rushed to nearby health facilities for treatment.

Traffic police were immediately deployed to the scene to restore normalcy as traffic was quickly building up.

Police stated that they were undertaking investigations to determine the cause of the accident.

After the accident, drivers plying the route were advised to approach the scene with caution even as police and rescue services moved in to clear the wreckage.

Further, the police cautioned motorists to observe traffic rules to prevent such incidents from happening.

According to the National Transport and Safety Authority, over 2,000 Kenyans lost their lives in road-related accidents as of June this year.

Some of the fatalities reported in that period included 622 pedestrians, 322 passengers and 545 motorcyclists.

The road safety agency noted that the high numbers were alarming as it was a 9.8 per cent increase from the data collected in the same period in 2021.

Consequently, the police launched a crackdown on various highways across the country.

“The National Police Service and the National Transport and Safety Authority have noted with concern an alarming increase in road traffic crashes incidences on our roads. The two agencies, viz NPS and NTSA further regret all the fatalities and injuries as a result of these unfortunate crashes.

“It is regrettable that most crashes are a result of human-related factors. Motorists and other road users are therefore reminded to remain vigilant, cautious, and responsible whilst in charge of a motor vehicle, or whenever using a public road as pedestrians,” police spokesperson, Bruno Shioso, stated during the crackdown launch.
