Chief Justice Martha Koome has asked Kenyans to pray for the judges as they retreat to deliberate on the judgment on the presidential petition.

Speaking at the Supreme Court on Friday, September 2, CJ Koome stated that they hope to render judgement that promotes the Constitution and is anchored in the law.

She adjourned the hearings as the judges proceed to deliberate on the petitions and noted that the apex Court will deliver its judgment on Monday, September 5.

"We are grateful for your encouragement and we continue to ask that you continue to pray for us so that we can render judgement that promotes our Constitution, nurtures our democracy and brings harmony to our country and everything good stated in our Constitution," she stated.

The Judges retired to make a judgment on the matter and will deliver a ruling on Monday. A notice will be given at the time of the ruling.

Deputy Chief Justice of the Supreme Court, Philomena Mwilu also asked for prayers and thanked the participants for their cooperation. She also lauded the judicial staff for their assistance in the last three days.

"We ask you that you pray to whatever God you pray to; that, that we may have a very high sense of discernment, and that we shall return to Kenya a judgement not less than what Kenyans expect," DCJ Mwilu stated.

Mwilu further noted that the task was made easy by the team of judges they had to work with noting that there was teamwork and cooperation amongst themselves.

"We work as a team, we divide roles and consider ourselves equals. None of us has veto power, but of course, we have a team leader. Pray for us as we undertake the next phase," she stated.

The final decision will be made by the 7 Supreme Court Judges; Chief Justice Martha Koome, Deputy CJ Philomena Mwilu, and Justices Dr. Smokin Wanjala, Mohamed Ibrahim, Njoki Ndungu,  Isaac Lenaola and William Ouko.

The apex court consolidated seven petitions into one arguing that they all raised the same concerns that Raila Odinga and Martha Karua of the Azimio la Umoja one Kenya coalition fronted.

The seven petitioners alleged that there were massive irregularities that compromised the integrity of the vote.
