President-elect William Ruto revealed details of a family tradition he and his wife Mama Rachel Ruto perform every morning before leaving his Karen residence.
Addressing the media on, Monday, September 5, Ruto stated that Rachel always holds his hands and says a prayer before he leaves the house.
He expressed that it was the prayers of the first lady designate and other Kenyans that made him win the August 9 polls.
"I want to thank my wife Rachel who prays for me every day. Before I leave the door of the house behind me (pointing at the Karen residence) she prays for me.
"I also thank my children for believing in me and always supporting me," he stated.
Ruto noted that he together with his allies faced a lot of intimidation during the electioneering period adding that the prayers kept them through the times he described as challenging.
"Many special thanks go to my friends who started this journey with me under very difficult circumstances. Many of you have suffered because of supporting me. The only crime you did was to support your friend," he stated.
Earlier on, Rachel issued a statement to congratulate Ruto for his victory noting that the Kenya Kwanza team faced so many hurdles to ascend to power.
"Congratulations Bill my love. God has done it. I am proud of you! May He give you the grace & wisdom to lead Kenya into greatness! You were born & destined for this!
"As written in Hebrews 10:23, let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm for God can be trusted to keep His promise," she stated.
Ruto was accompanied by Rachel and their children during the event held in Karen.
Also present was Deputy President designate Rigathi Gachagua and his wife - Pastor Dorcas Rigathi.
