Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka would be open to joining President-elect William Ruto's Kenya Kwanza if only the decision was ratified by Azimio La Umoja and his Wiper Party.

Speaking while attending a burial ceremony in Machakos County, on Saturday, September 10, Kalonzo explained that he would have to consult the coalition as he had signed a binding pre-election pact.

He further added that the move, if it happened, would be done in the public. Kalonzo, nonetheless, dismissed reports that he had already decamped to Kenya Kwanza, insisting that he was ready to serve in the opposition with Azimio flagbearer Raila Odinga and the coalition's chairman, President Uhuru Kenyatta.

He also dismissed claims that he met Ruto to discuss joining his alliance. The photos doing rounds on social media, he clarified were taken when Ruto visited his family to condole with them after the death of his father in October 2018.

The Wiper Party Leader also congratulated William Ruto and wished him well ahead of his swearing-in ceremony scheduled for Tuesday, September 13.

While reiterating that Azimio la Umoja does not agree with the Supreme Court verdict, Kalonzo stated that the decision was binding for the sake of Kenya.

“I now want to take this opportunity to wish President-elect who will become President on Tuesday, William Ruto. We do not agree at all with the verdict, but we are bound to it,” he added.

As to the coalition’s way forward, Kalonzo maintained that he was looking forward to Ruto's first five-year term ending.

He reiterated that he would work to ensure the government delivers on essential projects for the people of Kenya.

“Five years is a short time, we are going to serve in the opposition in the best way we can,” he noted.

"We will give Yatta Dam a priority. Even if we are in opposition, we will push for its construction, among other things," Kalonzo added.

Meanwhile, Azimio La Umoja running mate, Martha Karua, stated that she was considering challenging the Supreme Court verdict at the East African Court of Justice in Arusha, Tanzania.

Karua who alongside Kalonzo campaigned for Raila in the 2022 General Election, underlined the decision would be personal and not that of Azimio's.

"The court guided us to move on and we shall do so in line with rule of law and democracy. There is no other place to go other than the East African Court where I last filed an appeal (in 2017against Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru)," Karua shared her thoughts.
