Emotions ran high in Lanet, Nakuru County, after a teary reunion between two siblings who had been separated for six decades.

According to a report by Citizen TV, 79-year-old Veronica Nyambura and 75-year-old Felister Muthoni had spent the past 60 years trying to trace each other.

Nyambura affirmed that she lost touch with her sister in 1962 when the two met for a brief conversation before her sister headed to Tanzania. The two would not meet until now.

"The last time we were together was in 1962 at a time when I was planning to get married.  She was staying with our aunt in Tanzania so we met briefly before she embarked on her journey back home. We have never met each other till now," Nyambura stated.

Muthoni on the other hand, blamed the long delay on poor means of communication, especially at a time when technology was not advanced and instant messaging was yet to materialise.

Resorting to not give up on her sister, Nyambura sent a letter to Tanzania- addressed to Felister Muthoni. However, Nyambura thought it was a remote possibility for the letter to reach Muthoni as she may have changed her name after marriage. The letter, however, reached Muthoni- leading to her son, Barnabas Mwangi on a mission to locate her aunt.

He traveled to Kenya and managed to locate the place she stayed. After being informed that she had relocated, Mwangi found the person who had bought the plot of land and got his aunt's contacts.

The reunion between the sisters fulfilled the wish of their deceased mother who had urged the siblings to contact each other.

The two siblings noted that they would utilise the remaining time to bond with each other.

The incident mirrors another situation where Susan Wangui and Patrick Kanyora, reunited after a 14-year separation in Laikipia North.

The siblings got separated due to a mix-up at Kids Alive Children's home but later got reunited after the management's intervention.
