President William Ruto has confirmed that he will appoint six judges to the Court of Appeal.
Speaking on Tuesday, September 13, the President noted that in line with his promise to support the independence of the Judiciary, he will promote the judges who were nominated by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) in 2019.
Ruto will preside over the swearing-in ceremony of the six including, Aggrey Muchelule, George Odunga, Weldon Korir and Joel Ngugi on Wednesday, September 14.
"To further demonstrate my commitment to the independence of the judiciary, this afternoon, I will appoint the six judges already nominated for appointment to the court of appeal which was done three years ago.
"Tomorrow I shall preside over their swearing-in so that they can get on with the business of serving the people of Kenya," he stated.
The President as well lauded the institution led by Chief Justice Martha Koome for its role in ensuring Kenya's constitutionality stood firm amid adverse conditions in the aftermath of the august 9 General Election.
In line with this, he vowed that his administration will lead from the forefront in respecting the rule of law, promising to respect orders that will be issued by the court.
"To consolidate the place of the Judiciary in our constitutional and democratic dispensation, my administration will respect judicial decisions while we cement the place of Kenya as a country anchored on democracy and the rule of law," Ruto reiterated.
In the spirited battle against corruption, the President underlined that he would increase the funding of the Judiciary to enable it to fast-track cases.
He explained that the funds will be used to set up seven High Courts in counties, establish magistrate courts in 123 sub-counties and several small-claims courts.
"My administration which scales up the budgetary allocation to the Judiciary by an additional Ksh3 billion annually for the next five years. These resources will support the bottom-up scaling of justice by increasing the small claims court
"These interventions will empower the Judiciary to adjudicate and expeditiously conclude graft cases, commercial disputes and all other matters thereby enhancing access to Justice," Ruto stated.
