The profile of Senior Counsel Zehrabanu Janmohamed is partially anchored in her love and interest in cricket.
Speaking during an interview on Spice Fm, the lawyer and philanthropist explained that she met her husband, Mudassar Nazar, in a cricket outing in 2002.
“My husband and I met because of cricket in 2002 when he came to Kenya as the coach of the Pakistan team. We got married four years later.”
Mudassar Nazar was an opening batsman for the Pakistani national team. Having been raised by his father who also played cricket, Nazar followed his footsteps and eventually became a renowned cricket player.
He played for prominent league teams in Pakistan. Among the honours on his name include the golden arm which he won after his winning bowling spell in the 1982 world cup in a match against England.
He also served as the spokesman for the Pakistan players' association in the 1980s.
After retiring from professional cricket in 1989, Nazar embarked on his coaching career.
He had two stints as the national coach for Pakistan in 1993 and 2001. He has also coached a number of other teams, including Kenya's national team in the 2005 season.
Nazar settled in Bolton in England while Zehrabanu still lives in Kenya and is excelling in her legal practice.
Some of the highlights of Zehrabanu's law career is her presentation in the 2022 Supreme Court presidential petition case where she represented John Njoroge, a petitioner who challenged the validity of the election results released by the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC).
The status of Senior Counsel was conferred on her in 2021. Notably, the London-trained lawyer was also recognized for her philanthropic activities during the pandemic where she used to deliver food to the vulnerable.
