Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Sunday, September 18, affirmed that he would not engage in any business with the government.

Speaking on KTN News, Gachagua urged all public servants to follow suit and only focus on their duty to serve Kenyans diligently or quit.

In a tell-all interview, hosted by Sophia Wanuna, the DP added that his commitment to transparency and need for wealth declaration had compelled him to hand over two companies to his son to run the family business. He pointed out that his sons would also have to comply with the directive and only do business with the private sector.

Wanuna had put the DP to task to confirm how the Kenya Kwanza administration would effectively enforce the wealth declaration policy.

"I think wealth declaration is a good policy. I want to tell Kenyans that I will not do business with the government. I have handed over two companies to my son to continue the family business."

"I want to continue serving Kenyans and the salary that I will get is enough, there is no need to make more money outside of that. I have no intentions at all to do any business with the government."

"If my sons want to do business, I've told them to conduct with the private sector, because of conflict of interest. I would like to ask all public servants not to do business with the government," he stated.

The DP also broke silence on the bare-knuckle attack on retired president Uhuru Kenyatta during the inauguration ceremony at the Kasarani stadium.

Alluding to this, Gachagua noted that the speech was driven by the motive to tell the truth and assure Kenyans of their freedom.

"I wanted to tell the people of Kenya that they are free to criticise the government without the fear of reprisals... that is the truth, and I will continue telling Kenyans the truth."

Gachagua and his wife, pastor Dorcas Rigathi have two sons; Dr. Keith Ikinu Rigathi and Kevin Rigathi who works as a software engineer in the banking sector.
