A light aircraft on Wednesday, September 21, crash-landed at the Nairobi National Park, a few metres off the Southern Bypass.

Lang'ata OCPD Monica Kimani confirmed the incident, stating that four survivors had been rescued from the wreckage.

Kimani revealed that the aircraft from the Wilson Airport had developed mechanical problems leading to engine failure.

An eyewitness told the media that he saw the plane flying dangerously low before it crashed.

"I saw the plane flying at a very low altitude and at first, my passenger and I thought that it was conducting a patrol around the park. As it approached the plane made a sharp turn and overturned, crashing on the ground,"

"Shortly after, three passengers onboard managed to get out of the plane and sat on top of it," the motorbike rider stated.

A team of wardens from the Kenya Wildlife Services (KWS) were dispatched to rescue the survivors to safety and control the members of the public who attempted to access the park when the accident happened.

Police officers from the Langata Precinct were also at the scene to control traffic flow after a build-up caused by motorists attempting to get a glimpse of the carnage.

The incident comes a year after a helicopter pummeled in the park in March 2021.

In 2018 a pilot and nine passengers escaped unharmed after their plane crashed at the city-based National park shortly after departing from Wilson.

The pilot attempted to make an emergency landing after noticing a defect in the engine.

An instructor and trainee pilot lost their lives in October 2013 after their plane crashed in the park. The student was on a flying session before the plane went down and burst into flames on impact.
