Flavian Mwangi Waweru, a high-ranking Kenya Air Force officer, was found dead outside the Moi Airbase premises in Eastleigh, Nairobi on Monday night, September 26.
The police and the military confirmed his death, stating that Waweru's body was found inside his car along Juja Road, a few meters from the airbase's gates.
Waweru, who until his death was serving as Kenya Air Force Training Wing Colonel, was said to be returning from Nairobi CBD when he passed away.
A few days ago, he oversaw the Kenya Air Force New Soldiers Sports Talent Search Championship 2022 at Moi Air Base in Nairobi.
Police reports indicated that the Air Force commandant had left the base on Monday at 4 PM for Nairobi Central Business District.
However, details surrounding his final moments remain scanty as his body was discovered by road users who subsequently alarmed officers from the Air Base.
The officers rushed to the scene and took Waweru to a nearby health facility where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
This was confirmed by an officer from the Airbase who affirmed that the news had caught them by surprise.
“He was found locked in his car along Juja Road, a few meters from the main entrance of the Airbase.
Immediately the military police were informed and they rushed him to hospital where they were informed he had died,” a source from the Air Base told The Standard.
Security operatives have since launched investigations into the mysterious flow of events that led to Waweru’s death.
