Passengers of a 14-seater matatu confronted the driver after evading three accidents along Thika Superhighway.
In photos shared by some of the travellers, the speeding driver was said to have evaded two collisions around Kenyatta University (KU) on Saturday, October 1.
One of the passengers added that the vehicle almost rolled as the driver attempted to evade other vehicles plying the busy highway.
Upon confronting him for his reckless driving, the passengers discovered that the driver was drunk thus risking their lives.
The irked passengers roughed up the driver further threatening to beat him up.
"Shame on this reckless drunk matatu driver. The Sacco should discipline such drivers. He missed two collisions and a rollover near KU," one of the passengers stated.
A section of Kenyans lauded the passengers for calling out the driver with some urging them to report the case to the nearest police station.
"Good job, always investigate who is the driver and who is the conductor. If one is drunk, kindly don't board that vehicle. Say no to premature death by road accidents," Adego Junior stated.
"I support their decision. I once alighted before reaching my destination as I was afraid of the drunk driver causing an accident. I didn't even care about asking for a refund," Winnie Zembi echoed.
Additionally, others called for the driver to be arrested by the police and his licence revoked.
According to statistics released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA), 15,925 accidents were recorded between January and September 2022 with drunk driving blamed for the majority of the carnages.
The thousands of road accidents have so far claimed the lives of 3,541 Kenyans this year.
