Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has assured commissioners from 30 counties that their jobs are safe despite his hardline stance during campaign period.

In a meeting he held with the commissioners in Nairobi on Saturday, October 8, the DP challenged them to create a good rapport with their respective Governors.

He explained that the assignment was aimed at ensuring a good working relationship between the two levels of Government for proficient service delivery.

"I want to assure all of you, your jobs are safe. Ours is to have a fresh start of engaging and agreeing what we want the National Government to do for the benefit of the people of Kenya.

"I 'ask' everyone of you to take it as a personal responsibility to reach out to your Governor and make him feel comfortable with you and the National Government administration and the entire National Government," explained Gachagua.

The DP further noted that the relationship was crucial to helping President William Ruto to turn around the economy.

He also promised to take the commissioners for a seminar to lay down their manifesto the new regime seeks to fulfill in the next five years.

"President William Ruto has a huge responsibility to turn around this country. The contribution of the National Government administration to his success is critical and I want I want to ask you to work together with us.

"Soon we will take you for a seminar to take you through our manifesto so you understand it," he explained.

During the campaigns, leaders allied to Ruto constantly hit out at the commissioners accusing them of being misused by the outgoing Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang'i.

They challenged the state officials to be wary that should Ruto clinch power, they would be left to deal with consequences.

Shortly after the DP won the election, Matiang'i wrote a heartfelt letter to his officials thanking them for their service.

It is still not clear whether he will hold a role in Government after he was left out of the list of Ruto's nominees for the Cabinet Secretaries slots.
