Former Machakos Senator Johnson Muthama raised eyebrows after he hinted at a plan to have Kenya Kwanza parties folded when the five-year agreement runs out.

Speaking in a sit-down with TV47 on Monday, October 10, Muthama noted that plans were in high gear to have United Democratic Alliance (UDA), which is headed by President William Ruto, presented as the sole ruling party in the 2027 polls.

He explained that the door world be open for other Kenya Kwanza parties to dissolve and formerly join the ruling party.

"As far as we are concerned in the UDA party, especially in the leadership, we do not want to coerce anybody to dissolve his/her political party.

"What we are saying is, God willing, come 2027, we want to go to the election as a political party known as UDA so our elections will be about the party. That's why we are conducting the elections to the grassroots to make sure that we have recruited people from the grassroots," he stated.

Muthama, however, clarified that none of the parties would be coerced into folding their outfits to join that of the Head of State.

He also noted that as of the recent Kenya Kwanza agreement ahead of the August 9 polls, the coalition was still intact.

"What we are saying is that we came into a Coalition with friendly parties who were sympathetic  to us and we were sympathetic to them, we formed a Coalition and it went to the election and won the election. The Coalition is still intact.

"Once that is done, anyone who feels like they want to fold their political party to join UDA, the doors are open for them. We don't want to coarse, push or force anybody to do that. Kenya is a democratic party," he explained.

Muthama noted that the discussion was still in the pipeline and the party may decide to create another coalition depending on the circumstances leading to the 2027 polls.

Kenya Kwanza Coalition was formed by three main principal parties including UDA, Amani National Congress (ANC) led by Musalia Mudavadi and Ford Kenya headed by Moses Wetangula.

Other parties are Chama Cha Kazi headed by Moses Kuria, Communist Party of Kenya (CPK), Devolution Party of Kenya  (DPK), Economic Freedom Party (EFP), Farmers Party (FP), The Service Party (TSP) of Mwangi Kiunjuri, Tujibebe Wakenya Party (Jibebe) headed by William Kabogo and Umoja na Maendeleo Party.

Kuria, however, initiated a plan to dissolve his Chama Cha Kazi party for a full integration into UDA after he was nominated for CS position in the Ministry of Trade.

If the plan is effected, it would be a departure from the President's hard stance in ensuring that parties would not be dissolved to form one movement under the UDA umbrella.

During his interview, Muthama also confirmed that discussion to unveil his new role in Government had reached the last stage and the announcement would be made soon.

Reports indicate that he may be presented as a suitable candidate for the Cabinet Secretary without portfolio slot.

Ruto's plan to dissolve Kenya Kwanza has seen as a move to undermine democracy, and kill multi-party.
