As is the tradition, Members of Parliament often thank their constituents for electing them to the August house in their maiden speeches.

However, this was not the case for Bomet women representative Linet Chepkorir - popularly known as Toto - who paid glowing tribute to one boda boda rider in her county.

While addressing Parliament on October 11, Toto described one Gideon Cheruiyot as her champion following his role in helping her popularise her candidature.

The rider, Toto stated, had faith in her despite joining politics immediately after graduating from the University.

"Allow me to mention one person by the name of Gideon Cheruyiot. When I declared my ambition, he came to my home and asked me whether I was serious about my candidature," she stated.

Toto credited her win in the August 9 polls to the kindness of the Bomet-based businessman, who protected her as she traversed the vast Rift Valley county.

"He then decided to assist me with his bodaboda. He fueled it with his own money and took me to the field in the morning and back home in the evening.

"Gideon, wherever you are, may God bless you," she stated.

Toto got accolades from her colleagues who sat patiently and listened to the youngest parliamentarian's speech.

The women representative made headlines in the run to the August 9 polls after she beat veteran politicians to clinch the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party ticket.

Her story also caught the attention of President Willian Ruto's allies, who came to her rescue, offering her vehicles and finances to popularise her candidature.
