Homicide detectives drawn from the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) retraced the last moments and movements of the husband to a female Kiambu politician, who was found murdered and his body dumped in Kieni Forest in Gatundu North.

According to a statement dated Friday, October 14, the deceased, who was an engineer based in Rwanda, had attended a family function in the company of his new lover.

Coincidentally, his estranged wife also attended the event. DCI stated that the wife and the lover were acquaintances, as the deceased had introduced his new soulmate to the extended family.

The lover and the engineer reportedly met a few years ago when the latter rented the former's house. Their relationship turned from landlord-tenant to lovebirds. The deceased allegedly opted to stay at the rental rather than at his house during his numerous home visits.

After the event, the deceased engineer allegedly did not interact with his wife, who unsuccessfully vied for the Kiambu woman representative seat in the August 9 polls, but drove off in the company of his new lover.

They parted ways, and the engineer, who was based in Rwanda, decided to join his wife at their matrimonial home in Mang'u. According to detectives, that was the last time he was seen alive

"After conducting a thorough forensic documentation of the house today, detectives based at the Crime Research and Intelligence Bureau, Homicide Department, Forensic Crime Scene and Photographic units have concluded that he was murdered in his bedroom at the top floor," DCI statement read in part.

"Pieces of blood stained metal rods, blood soaked bed sheets, stained curtains and clothing were part of the exhibits that were recovered in the house by the sleuths based at the DCI National Forensic Laboratory," DCI added.

Speaking to the sleuths, his lover said they had planned to go out on a date the following day, but his phone was not going through. She also revealed that she was cautious about calling the engineer after her wife gave her a dress down on one occasion.

However, after a series of unanswered phone calls, the lover decided to file a missing person report on September 11. Her report was corroborated by an eyewitness who explained to have seen a woman driving the deceased's car.

The car developed some mechanical problems and was fixed by a mechanic who also recorded a statement. Another eyewitness informed the detectives about flagging the car since the luggage seemed to be falling off.

Detectives accused the Kiambu female politician of planning the execution of her husband in cold blood. DCI added that the politician reportedly collaborated with some of their casual labourers to murder the engineer.

"The vehicle sped towards Kieni Forest, where the body was discovered the following day wrapped in black polythene under a heap of cartons and empty bags of cement. It is after the body was dumped that the main suspect, through a phone call at around 8 pm, made a missing person’s report," DCI stated.

Detectives also investigated the disappearance of one labourer who went missing on the fateful day.  The female politician and another labourer linked to the murder were detained for further questioning.
