The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has summoned former Jubilee party Vice Chairman David Murathe and veteran politician Cyrus Jirongo.
Speaking to Kenyans.co.ke on Thursday, November 3, a source at the EACC confirmed that Murathe and Jirongo were asked to appear before the commission to record statements.
However, the insider did not disclose further information on why the two are being questioned.
"Yes I can confirm the summons. The EACC will issue a statement on the same in the course of the day," the official stated.
Murathe and Jirongo are expected to appear at the EACC headquarters at the Integrity Centre, Nairobi.
Cyrus Jirongo was among the candidates for the Kakamega County Governor's position on a UDP ticket and came in a distant third behind ODM's Fernandes Barasa and ANC's Cleophas Malala with 5,974 votes.
He previously served as Lugari Member of Parliament and wielded power during the late President Daniel Moi's reign.
David Murathe was a strong ally of former president Uhuru Kenyatta and a defender of the Azimio La Umoja One Kenya Coalition.
He resigned as the Jubilee party vice chairman saying he could not sit with the then Deputy President William Ruto in the party's leadership structure.
This came after the EACC issued summons for Kakamega County Governor Fernandes Barasa to appear before the Commission to respond to corruption allegations during his tenure at Kenya Electricity Transmission Company Limited (KETRACO)
A number of high profile cases have recently been reviewed and some dropped after the Directro of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji revealed that they were politically instigated.
In 2020, the EACC summoned David Murathe over the infamous KEMSA scandal after a firm linked to the former Jubilee point man was implicated the loss of Ksh4 billion by Kemsa for failing to supply Personal Protective Equipment.
