A boda boda rider and his passenger were ambushed and shot dead in broad daylight by armed men in Isiolo.

The two, who were riding on the Merit-Georgica road, were reportedly ferrying livestock food when they were waylaid.

The County Commissioner, Geoffrey Omoding, confirmed the incident, adding that a manhunt was launched to apprehend the suspects.

One of the victims, who tried to escape and hide in the bush, was tracked and assassinated before the gunmen vanished.

"Two people on a bike were shot, but the armed men did not take anything.

"We do not know the reason for the attack," he added.

Preliminary reports indicated that the suspects may have come from a neighbouring community.

He stated that the National Police Service (NPS) had launched investigations into the case and was keen on taming any retaliations.

Omoding as well called upon the residents to provide any information on the issue and the rampant killings

Residents were further assured of security, with police deployed to protect the area. Notably, the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kithure Kindiki, vowed to deal with bandits and militia attacks in Rift Valley and North Eastern Kenya.

"As soon as I take office, the first assignment will be to ensure we set free this country from criminals, bandits, cattle rustlers and terrorists. We will speak less because security does not require speaking.

“I have no apologies to make about this. Criminals have to be faced as criminals, period! We will do to criminals what needs to be done to them under both national and international law,” Kindiki added.
