Other journalists including Francis Gachuri and Sinda Matiko also joined in the drive.

KBC acting Managing director Samuel Maina also mobilised his team to support Kasavuli who made a comeback to the screen in 2022.

"Dear friends, colleagues and well-wishers. Our dear colleague Catherine Kasavuli is hospitalized at the KNH Private Wing after being diagnosed with cervical cancer.

"For those who can, she needs blood transfusion urgently. Your prayers and moral support will be very welcome," read a statement from Maina.

Prior to her return at the state-owned station, Kasavuli worked at Citizen TV, KBC and KTN. She also boasts of being the first female news anchor in the country.

Kasavuli has been a force to reckon within the media circles since her big break in the 1980s.

At the time, she was among the first journalists to host a live broadcast at a privately owned station, KTN.

She now hosts Legend Edition on the national broadcaster.
