Detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) detailed the thrilling events leading to the arrest of one of Nairobi's notorious gunmen on Tuesday, November 8.

The DCI conducted a 48 hours operation to apprehend the mastermind linked in the murder of a bank clerk on Monday, October 31, in Donholm, among four other accounts of robbery with violence.

"Trouble for the thugs started when the headquarters' based sleuths gathered sufficient actionable intelligence regarding their whereabouts," DCI stated.

According to the DCI, after the forensic investigations linked the gunman to the crimes, they pounced into action and cornered the man at his home in Kayole in broad daylight.

Sensing the danger, the suspect engaged the detectives in a high-speed chase through the estate for about three kilometres.

The operation attracted the attention of residents who had initially closed their shops and watched from the corners of their half-open windows.

"Our detective pounced on him, pinning him to the ground before a struggle ensued.

The detective handcuffed the determined thug before the police vehicle arrives and whisked away the criminal," DCI explained.

It added that the suspect allegedly received training from the Alshabaab militia in Somalia before returning to Kenya and was dangerous to the public.

However, DCI noted that another group member went into hiding. It called upon the public to help arrest the suspect.

Additionally, DCI stated that missing suspects always play the eye-witness role at a crime scene to mislead the detectives and the media

"He would only leave the scene after ensuring that he has tampered with every detail that would incriminate his accomplices," DCI explained.
