Drama ensued in parliament on Thursday, November 10, as members allied to the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Party and their counterparts in Jubilee differed during proceedings.
The disagreement arose after the Azimio Senators withdrew Isiolo's Fatuma Dullo from its list of nominees for the powerful Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC), replacing her with Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni.
Members of Jubilee Party accused ODM of mistreatment and isolation when it came to party nominations
Sabina Chege, a member of Jubilee Party, was, however, seen as the pariah in the house after she vehemently defended ODM party over their controversial decision.
Taking to the floor, the Nominated MP argued that Jubilee was to be blamed for woes bedeviling Azimio la Umoja coalition.
Chege noted that Jubilee cannot be taken seriously since it lacks a clear structure of communication adding that the party sometimes gives contradicting information.
"I do not think we should blame ODM, I want to blame my party Jubilee. The party should not be sending two or three parties on one issue giving different instructions.
"I want to address my party and say, 'put your act together.' Even on the issue of EALA, we had three letters coming from the same party and giving different names," she lamented.
Chege had earlier been agitated by Laikipia North MP Sarah Korere when she hinted about Jubilee breaking out of Azimio coalition.
"We were forced in this marriage and there will be a time when we will pull out because of intimidation by ODM," Korere stated.
"ODM has never shown respect to Jubilee, even Junet Mohammed came to my constituency and campaigned for my competitor," a bitter Korere revealed.
According to ODM, they dropped Senator Fatuma Dullo because they felt Omogeni was more familiar with how parliament works and would advance the party's agenda.
“Mr Omogeni has demonstrated an in-depth understanding of the workings of Parliament, so I’m sure we have made the right decision,” Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna explained.
The National Assembly, however, approved amendments made by ODM concerning PSC committee membership.
National Assembly speaker Moses Wetangula ordered that the committee members be sworn in immediately. PSC primarily provides services and facilities to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of parliament.
