The police apprehended the notorious thugs as they were moving on a motorbike.

“They were on board a motorcycle registration number KMFG 511T," the police statement added.

The trio were found carrying crude weapons including two sharp knives, and sharp spoons, sharp metal of about 15cm.

The arrest came after police intensified a crackdown on criminal gangs, terrorizing Kenyans in Nairobi and its environs.

The KCA underpass where the arrests were made is in among crime hotspots identified by the National Police Service.

Other crime hotspot areas include; Globe Cinema, Kipande Road, Thika highway, Drive-In flyover to Kenya College of Accountancy (KCA) Central Business District (CBD) towards River Road, Archives, Kirinyaga Road, Fig Tree, ABC Place, and Kangemi.

To combat crime in those areas, through a dispatch from State House, President William Ruto ordered the deployment of additional specialized police units from the General Service Unit and the Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) in the capital.

“From an overall perspective, the state of national security is sound, even though parts of the country had over the last week experienced a surge in crime particularly in Nairobi,” the dispatch read in part.

Nairobi governor Johnson Sakaja also promised to work with the national government to tame the rising crime cases.

“The county government will play its role to support the police in maintaining security,” Sakaja vowed.
