Former Law Society of Kenya President, Nelson Havi, was nominated for the position of Solicitor General (SG).

Havi was among the eight shortlisted candidates in a list published by the Public Service Commission (PSC).

PSC is seeking to replace Ken Ogeto, who has been the country's solicitor general since 2018, when he was appointed by former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Havi vied for the Westlands parliamentary seat on a United Democratic Alliance ticket and lost to the incumbent Timothy Wanyonyi of the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM).

Beatrice Mugeni Meso, a former Kenya Power General Manager, Corporate Affairs and Company Secretary between 2014-2019, will also battle for the position.

Kenya's laws provide that the solicitor general serves for five years with a window of renewal for another term.

Requirements demand the applicant to be a citizen of Kenya and hold a law degree from a recognized university.

At least 10 years of experience is required of the applicant, whom the PSC adds, should be of high moral character, integrity, and impartiality.

Applicants must also meet the requirements of Chapter Six of the Constitution on Leadership and Integrity.

The interviews for the position will be between December 13 and 14.
