President William Ruto appointed Former Transport CS Michael Kamau as the Chairperson of the National Health Insurance Fund (NHIF)
Kamau took over the crucial institution from Lewis Nguyai whose appointment was revoked.
"In Exercise of the powers conferred by section 4 (1) (a) of the National Health Insurance Fund Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces of the Republic of Kenya, appoint Michael Kamau to be the Chairperson of the National Health Insurance Fund, for a period of three (3) years, with effect from the Friday, December 23. The appointment of Lewis Nguyai is revoked," read the notice in part.
In a Gazette notice dated Friday, December 23, the Head of State also appointed several leaders to head boards across his Government including Job Chirchir who was tapped to serve as the Chairperson of the Kenya Forest Service (KFS).
Retired Lieutenant General Walter Raria Koipaton was also appointed to serve as the Chairperson of the Kenya Wildlife Service Board for a three-year term beginning on Friday, December 23, 2022.
The Head of State also revoked General Julius Karangi’s previous appointment as Chairperson of the National Social Security Fund Board of Trustees. He replaced him with Anthony Muriuki Munyiri for a three-year term.
Karangi was moved to the National Council for Population and Development Board where he will serve as the chairperson for a period of three years.
Walter Nyambati was appointed to serve a three-year term as the Chairperson of the Board of Geothermal Development Company.
Faith Boinett replaced Rita Achieng Okuthe on the board of directors of the Kenya Pipeline Company Limited for a three-year term.
The appointments came a day after Ruto, on Thursday, December 22, appointed retired Chief Justice David Maraga to lead a task force charged with reviewing police officers' pay and benefits as well as other reforms within the National Police Service (NPS).
Carole Kariuki was named as Maraga's deputy in the 18-member task force.
The task force was given the choice of holding public hearings, creating forums, and engaging with experts from various sectors, among other things, in the course of their responsibilities.
