Ruto's Swearing-in Ceremony Among BBC's Highlight Events of 2022

A photo taken at the Kasarani Stadium during President Willliam Ruto’s swearing-in ceremony on September 13 was among BBC’s highlight moments of 2022. 

The photo of the seemingly euphoric Kenyan dancers donned in yellow attires, the signature colour of President Ruto’s United Democratic Alliance (UDA), the party emerged seventh on the corporation's list of the key moments that defined 2022. 

Other notable photos on the list include Lionel Messi’s photo after Argentina's historic World Cup triumph and the infamous Hollywood moment when Will Smith slapped comedian Chris Rock. 

Queen Elizabeth's burial procession also made the cut of the moments that shaped 2022's s landscape as the world followed the burial of one the most prominent monarchs.

The photos were one of the items listed in the BBC recapitulation of the year 2022. 

Other Kenyan items included in BBC’s recap include stories that shaped the political or general typography across the globe.  

The stories include the Kenya election update by BBC which gave frequent updates of election figures as Kenyans and the world by extension followed the developments of the August 9 polls. 

Also among the top stories is a story about “Why Kenyan elections take so long and another on “Why Kenya farmers like the man with big ambitions". 

Kenya's election attracted attention from different quarters of the world as the two major players in the contest wrestled for the country's top seat. 

A story on President Ruto's decisions to reverse key policies adopted by his predecessor's administration was also identified as a noteworthy story for the year under review. 

The story featured, among others - Ruto's cancellation of fuel and maize subsidies, appointing seven judges who were initially rejected by Uhuru, and reverting port operations to the Port City of Mombasa as promised in his campaigns. 

These political developments were ranked among other major political events from around the world including former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's resignation and Rishi Sunak's ascension to power.
