New details emerged following a road crash along the Nairobi-Namanga road involving a Prado that killed 63-year-old Abigael Magero and her 41-year-old daughter, Joan Magero.

A new report filed at Kitengela Police Station showed that the 32-year-old driver, who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident, had taken the car from his father without permission.

According to the report, the driver, who had spent some time with the Prado, was rushing back home to return the car at the time the accident occurred.

The vehicle was speeding along the highway while at Yugos Area - a stretch marked as a blackspot owing to the numerous fatal accidents that occur in the area.

Speaking to the press on Tuesday, January 3, family members disclosed that the duo was knocked dead while crossing the busy road to access a mall on the other side.

The mother had come to Nairobi to celebrate the holiday season with her daughter and usher in the new year when their plans took an unfortunate turn.

"I knew my mother was undergoing health issues, so she always visited hospitals for checkups. But I wondered why did they take her to George Saitoti morgue?

"At the time, I was trying to connect the dots. The doctor informed me that an elderly lady and a middle-aged woman had succumbed at the hospital," recalled Abigael's son.

Confirming the incident, the station's police OCS noted that the driver of the ill-fated car was arrested for causing the fatal crash.

He was, however, released on a bond of Ksh50,000 bond and is expected in court to answer the charges after the post-mortem of the deceased is conducted.

The crash took place on December 31, 2022, and left the luxury car mangled up with a visible dent on its bonnet.

Latest from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) shows that road carnages had spiked during the holiday season and that 4,248 fatalities were recorded between January 1, 2022, and November 30, 2022.
