Kenyan police are investigating a case where two youthful Kenyans, including a form two student, were shot dead in Ethiopia in connection with a series of criminal cases.
While confirming the case, Kibish Deputy County Commissioner, Samuel Kiarie, stated that the two were suspected of leading a shady business of selling motorcycles and mobile phones to locals in the Southern Ethiopian town of Omorate.
According to reports, an angry mob descended on the two young men on Thursday, January 5, killing them on the spot.
The Sub-County boss intimated that the deceased men were also linked to a chain supplying stolen goods from Kenya and crossing over to sell in Ethiopia.
According to Kiarie, Kenyan authorities were yet to be apprised of the exact circumstances that culminated in the death of the Kenyans.
He, however, assured that the government planning to repatriate the bodies to Kenya for post-mortem and internment.
Further, the administrator confirmed that his side was in talks to have Ethiopian authorities hand over another suspect arrested concerning the theft.
“We are talking to Ethiopian authorities to arrange to ferry the bodies of the deceased to the Todonyang border point for collection.
"We are also negotiating with them to hand over the arrested suspect to Kenyan authorities to be charged back home,” the DCC told The Standard.
Ethiopian authorities had reportedly, complained of a surge in cases where Ethiopian nationals are arrested for handling stolen goods in Kenya.
The incident was the latest of several cases of insecurity and crime reported along the border of Kenya and Ethiopia.
