Kiambu Governor Kimani Wamatangi dismissed claims that his county government was falling apart amid threats of impeachment by the Members of County Assembly (MCAs).

Speaking on Thursday, January 12, Wamatangi described the wrangles between him and the MCAs as inconsequential and the matter was resolved.

He explained that the tiff was over the definitive roles of the governor and ward reps in the county.

"Those are teething problems within the county government given its new regime. There is really not much to it.

"It was just a misunderstanding of how the law is applied and that has been made very clear. I intend to ensure my experience from the senate to ensure that we are a law-abiding government," Wamatangi stated.

The Kiambu County boss further refuted claims that he had used his foundation to issue bursaries to residents amounting to an abuse of office.

"A governor cannot fail to give them because it is prescribed in the Constitution, the county assembly passed a law on how much should be dispensed and the methodology - who plays that role," he clarified.

Wamatangi confirmed that he had a meeting with the ward representatives and they deliberated on the grey areas of their roles.

Nonetheless, he mentioned that the tiff by some of the MCAs might have been fanned by political rivals who are hell-bent on ensuring that he does not deliver.

He called on the county assembly legislature to remain focused since they only had five years to deliver to the people of Kiambu.

Among the accusations against Wamatangi was that he was neglecting his duties or unfairly discharged his mandate.

He and Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja are the latest county bosses to face impeachment threats after the Senate saved Kawira Mwagaza of Meru.
