A photo of a six-wheeled matatu was widely shared online eliciting mixed reactions among Kenyans on Thursday, January 12.
The 'unique' vehicle caught the attention of over 4,000 Kenyans who sought to understand where the matatu was headed, many suggesting it was traveling to the rural areas.
"Is this real?" one user posed.
Following the question, there was an interactive session in the comment section with many suggesting it was a bad case of photoshop and image alteration.
"How does such a vehicle pass the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) inspection with structural modifications that probably did not go through the Kenya Bureau of Standards (KEBS)," one concerned user questioned.
Interestingly, one opined that it was the perfect camera shot where the photographer captured two vehicles.
However, some Kenyans jokingly declared that they had used the vehicle nicknamed 'limomat' to move around.
"Photoshop express, it is very spacious I used it last week while going to help Ukraine," one user comically stated.
"I used the matatu, very spacious and comfortable. I can refer you all," another interjected.
Digital gurus went a step further to alter the image making the matatu appear to have 10 wheels and slightly resemble a bus.
However digital media expert, Brian Muuo, clarified that the image was photoshopped to make the matatu appear longer.
He added that it was a classic case of duplication of some parts of the image to give the illusion of the six-wheeled matatu.
"If you look keenly at the matatu you can tell the rear end has been duplicated. Also, some parts of the photo like the road barrier were replicated as well," he stated.
