Nairobi International Schools Charging up to Ksh 3.8M Ranked Most Expensive in Africa

International Schools Database (2022) research revealed that Nairobi City had the most expensive international schools in Africa.

The report released on January 17, 2023, further revealed that Nairobi had the biggest spread of international schools in the continent.

Cape Town was the least expensive city in Africa for international schooling among the sampled global cities.

“For the second year in a row, Nairobi emerged as the most expensive city when it comes to international schools.

“The spread of international schools in Nairobi is also the highest in Africa,” International School Database report read in part.

Local and ex-pat parents seeking to enroll their children in international schools in Kenya have to pay up to Ksh3.8 million in school fees.

“While Nairobi international schools are the most expensive in the continent, they offer options for every parent.

“This is because there are some international schools charging as low as Ksh116,000 while the most expensive one charges Ksh3.8 million,” the research revealed.

Globally, out of 76 sampled cities, Kenya was ranked 57th with international schools charging an average of Ksh907,000 per year in school fees.

Cape Town, in 2021, was the least expensive city not only in Africa but also globally with an average of Ksh500,000 in school fees per year.

It climbed up one spot globally but remained the cheapest city in Africa for international schooling in 2022.

Unlike other cities in Africa, Cape Town had the lowest range in terms of school fees paid. The cheapest international school charged Ksh273,000 while the most expensive charged Ksh699,000.

Addis Ababa and Johannesburg were ranked second and third respectively on the list of expensive cities.

Kampala, which had been ranked third in 2021, dropped one position to appear fourth with an average of Ksh653,000 in school fees.
