Not much was known about 2022 CNN Hero of the Year, Nelly Cheboi, until she told the world her story that typically epitomised an industrious mind on a global scale. 

Cheboi, a software engineer, was crowned the 2022 CNN Hero of the Year for her exemplary philanthropic work through her company TechLit Africa where she secured computers for children in her rural village. 

However, before rising to global stardom, Cheboi was an online consultant who worked for a number of companies remotely on the Internet. 

"TechLit Africa teaches digital skills in rural primary schools. Right now our fifth graders are building websites. The idea is that there are so many opportunities online, and so, if you know how to code or whatever the skill, you can get a job online and work remotely for companies abroad," Cheboi explained.

For Cheboi to prepare children for a great future, she introduced her mentees to the various opportunities which are available on the Internet. 

"Some our teachers are currently working remotely for companies in Califonia in the United States, from Mogotio," Cheboi explained.

Here are the some of the most sought after online job opportunities that Kenyans can take advantage of: 

1. Online Tutor

It's possible for an individual make a living by helping out and teaching other people the things he or she knows.

The teaching industry is varied and wide on the Internet since one can teach college students as well as learners – from elementary school to high school.

"Thankfully, with the Internet, you don’t have to be limited to your local geographic area. You can teach kids and people from all over the world," University of the People advises. 

An online tutor pockets between Ksh1,400 to Ksh2,000 per hour. 

2. Search Engine Evaluator

Maybe you didn't know that search engines like Google and Bing rely on user feedback to update their algorithms.

Freelance content is used by social media managers to build relationships and promotes sales for companies. 

Currently, there is a huge demand for content writers as more and more companies want to build long-term trust with their target audiences.

"They’re not only skilled at conveying complicated ideas, but they know how to do it in a way that best converts in a particular content format,"  University of the People advised. 

4. Resume Writer
