A man was on Thursday, January 19, charged in court for allegedly storming into the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) office in Mtwapa, Mombasa and lecturing detectives.
According to court documents, the suspect reportedly stormed the offices purporting to represent a client over a land saga in the Coastal town.
The impostor gave misleading information to the officer in charge and acted in a way that threatened to breach the peace at the facility.
After he was busted, the man demeaned the DCI officers stating that the office lacked the mandate to investigate the land issue in the area.
He allegedly to have committed the offences on Friday, January 13, at the DCI Mtwapa office.
According to court documents, the suspect faced three counts including pretending to be an advocate, giving false information to a person employed in the public service and creating a disturbance.
"DCI Mtwapa is not a competent organisation to investigate the issue of land in question and also that the man claiming to own the land will suffer consequences," the charge sheet read in part.
However, the suspect denied all the allegations when he appeared before Shanzu Principal Magistrate Yussuf Shikanda.
The magistrate lifted a warrant of arrest that had earlier been issued against the suspect.
"The suspect has presented himself before the court. The directions on the cash bail he had been issued were not clear whether he was to appear in court or at the police station. It only indicated that his cash bail had been extended to January 18," the suspect's advocate defended him.
Following his lawyer's appeal, the suspect was granted a Ksh100,000 cash bail.
