Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua on Monday, January 23 asked musician Samuel Muchoki, popularly known as Samidoh, to take control of his family amidst recent squabbles between him and his wife Karen Nyamu, a nominated Senator.
The Deputy President was speaking while speaking during the burial service of Trade and Investments Cabinet Secretary Moses Kuria's sister in Gatundu North, Kiambu county.
Gachagua, particularly asked Samidoh not to embarrass the country especially because he is a police officer and performs abroad too.
“Samidoh you are my friend and we love you, but control your people, if you won’t we will bar you from travelling abroad,” the Deputy President directed.
"I will sit down with you to have an understanding of how to mitigate this issue so that when you go to perform abroad you do not embarrass us.
"Failure to do that as our police officer we will punish you," he affirmed.
Gachagua's remarks came slightly a month after Karen Nyamu had an altercation with the celebrated musician and his first wife, Edday Nderitu, at an entertainment joint in Dubai.
A video that circulated online eliciting reactions from Kenyans showed Nyamu and Samidoh in a confrontation.
Following the incident, the United Democratic Alliance (UDA)'s Disciplinary Committee summoned the nominated senator to show cause for her actions.
In a letter dated December 19,2022, chairperson of the committee Charles Njenga indicated that the incident had brought shame to the party which nominated Nyamu to Senate.
"Your conduct and mannerism as exhibited in that incident has brought shame, disrepute and lowered the dignity of the party which nominated you to the office of Senator,
“In the said incident which is well captured on video that has been widely circulated in both mainstream and social media, your conduct and mannerism as exhibited in that incident have brought shame, disrepute and lowered the dignity of the party which nominated you to the office of Senator,” the summon letter read in part.
She was ordered to appear before the disciplinary committee on Friday, December, 23 at 9:30 am at the party’s headquarters at Hustler Plaza in Nairobi.
Nyamu would later own her mistake, saying she had broken up with Samidoh, who is the father of her two children.
She added that she intended to quit alcohol in 2023, which she termed as one of the causes for the scuffle that occurred at a club in Dubai where Samidoh was performing.
