Govt Puts 109 Vehicles on Auction for as Low as Ksh5,000; How to Bid

The Kenyan Government, through the Ministry of Water, Sanitation, and Irrigation, on Tuesday, January 24, announced its plan to sell vehicles at throwaway prices.

The vehicles will be auctioned at Water Works Development Agencies in Mombasa, Nyeri, Nakuru and Kakamega Counties.

In total, 103 government-registered vehicles will be auctioned. Other items set to go under the hammer include computers, accessories, and office furniture - mostly in Nairobi County.

“The Ministry in conjunction with the appointed registered auctioneer Ms. Petfriend auctioneers wishes to inform the general public of the intended sale of the underlisted items on “as -is- where- is” basis on the following dates and venue,” the Ministry announced through a public notice.

In Mombasa, a total of 28 vehicles will be auctioned at Coast Water Works Development Agency offices on Friday, February 17, 2023.

“The reserve price of the vehicles ranges from Ksh2000 to Ksh150,000,” the auction notice added in part.

In Nyeri, 25 vehicles will be auctioned at Tana Water Works Development Agency on Wednesday, February 15, 2023, with reserve prices ranging from Ksh120 to Ksh200,000.

“The auction in Nakuru will take place at Rift Valley Water Works Development Agency on Friday, February 10, 2023, with a total of 28 vehicles being auctioned,” the Ministry stated.

The reserve price ranges from Ksh2,000 to Ksh1.5 million.

In Kakamega, the auction will take place at Lake Victoria North Water Works Development Agency on Monday, February 13, 2023.

Thirty-five vehicles will be auctioned in Kakamega with reserve prices ranging from Ksh5,000 to Ksh1.5 million.

The ministry will not auction vehicles but office stationery and furniture in Nairobi.

The auction will take place at the Ministry of Water, Sanitation & Irrigation - Basement Stores on Wednesday, February 8, 2023.

How to bid

A DVD containing detailed information is available at the Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation room 118 upon payment of a non-refundable fee of Ksh1,000.

After paying for the DVD, all interested bidders will obtain a bidding number from the auctioneer.

All interested bidders are advised to view the motor vehicles at various stations as indicated in the DVD catalog.

Interested bidders are required to pay a refundable deposit of Ksh50,000 to obtain a bidding number for obsolete motor vehicles and Ksh10,000 for assorted stores.
