From the photos shared online, the matatu was completely squashed due to the impact of the collision.

Additionally, the muguka leaves were seen scattered on the seats and the floor of the vehicle as well as blood stains on both vehicles.

However, it was not disclosed how many people were in the matatu and the lorry itself.

On Saturday, January 21, an accident involving a lorry and a personal service vehicle killed several passengers. This accident occurred in the Makuyu Kambiti area along the Kenol-Marua highway.

According to police reports, those severely injured were rushed to nearby hospitals for medical attention as the bodies were taken to the morgue.

Motorists were urged to exercise caution while on the road to reduce the number of casualties.

Data released by the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) in December 2022, reported that overtaking improperly was among the leading cause of road accidents.

In addition, the data showed that casualties between January 2022 and December 13, 2022, increased from 4,271 to 4,432 in the same period in 2021.

Some of the intervention measures introduced by the authority include joint enforcement campaigns with the National Police Service (NPS) and collaboration with road agencies in hazardous zone identification and treatment.
