Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua was invited to 200 fundraisings just hours after the Court of Appeal directed the government to return Ksh200 million it had seized from the second in command.

Speaking during a conference with the Senators on Thursday, February 2, the DP indicated that he received the invitations on the morning after the ruling was made.

He also teased how people had already made plans on how the funds ought to be used.

"This morning I received more than 200 invitations to attend Harambee. You know the past government had taken my money and it was released yesterday. Now, everybody is planning for that money.

"That is the world we live in because I am a son of Mau Mau. They are also claiming that it is their money," he stated.

Nonetheless, he indicated that he was yet to receive the money.

"Governor Abdullswamad Nassir, you said that we should spend the little that I have here but if you are targeting the Ksh200 million, I have not been given because the court order had not been given.

"What was written in the newspaper has not yet come," he stated.

The DP made the statement a day after the Assets Recovery Agency (ARA) was ordered to return the money it had seized from Gachagua in the run to the polls.

Gachagua had appealed a decision by the High Court which determined that he could not prove the source of the money.

In June 2022, Gachagua claimed that the construction of his house in Nyeri County had stalled after the money was seized.

Consequently, he added that he would use the money to put up a structure to host guests at his home.

“I put up a good house and a small house ya wazee ya kuchomea nyama (make roasted meat) as they take their favourite drinks as we chat. Is that okay?

"Then for women, I put up a place where they can be visiting Mama Gachagua to take porridge as they sing and praise. And because women love dancing I will install a kinanda for dancing to,” he stated at a rally on June 29, 2022.
