The Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) on Friday, February 10, issued a statement warning members of the public against a fake recruitment notice circulating on social media.

In a statement seen by Kenyans.co.ke, the institution noted that no recruitment exercise was lined up to happen in February as was purported in the advert post.

KDF disowned the notice and urged the public to disregard any communication from third parties.

According to the statement, all official communications are done using KDF's official website and online sites or through select local dailies.

Members of the public have since been advised to verify such information by cross-checking with the above-mentioned sites.

“Members of the public are notified that KDF is not conducting a recruitment exercise. Always verify information on employment advertisements on the Ministry of Defence's website, our social media platforms, or local dailies.

The advertised positions in the post include the General Service Officers (GSO) cadets, specialist officers, general duty recruits, and KDF constables scheduled to take place in February.

The post also provided specific locations where the recruitment processes would have taken place, copying the format used by KDF.

However, it emerged that the letter was used in a past recruitment exercise dated February 2021. The motive and the source of the letter were yet to establish.

The warning from KDF came when a section of Kenya was anticipating a recruitment exercise in the year, hoping to secure a slot in the vast jobs within the military institution.

Kenya's last military recruitment process was in November 2021, when KDF advertised openings in six categories, including KDF constables.

Integrity questions marred the exercise despite a stern warning from KDF top brass warning Kenyans to be cautious of conmen and women masquerading as KDF officers to solicit bribes and issuing fraudulent calling letters.
