National Assembly Deputy Speaker Gladys Boss Shollei on Tuesday, February 14, jumped to the defence of Nominated Member of Parliament Sabina Chege in the latest row in the Jubilee Party.

In a statement shared on Tuesday, Boss urged Narc Kenya Party Leader Martha Karua to stand against attempts by a section of Azimio leaders to demean women leaders over their political stances.

Boss termed remarks by Azimio leaders during a rally in Machakos on Friday, February 10, targeting Sabina Chege as crude and a betrayal of her long-standing dedication to campaigning for the coalition during the last general election.

"It is unacceptable and appalling what Azimio rallies are degenerating into with our big sister Hon Martha Karua watching and condoning the happenings in this theatre of absurd," Boss stated.

"If they can insult their own Deputy Minority Leader Hon Sabina Chege who is the highest ranking woman leader in Azimio today, one wonders what they are prepared to do to the Proverbial Wanjiku."

In addition, Boss denounced the remarks of Mumias East Member of Parliament Peter Salsya directed at Bomet Woman Representative Linet Toto during a rally in Busia on Sunday, February 12.

She described the conduct of Salasya as an indication that the nation was headed to a dangerous trajectory if no action was taken.

"We have come too far in the question of Gender Equality in this country, nobody should think we will fold our hands and let them reverse the gains we have made as women to be treated equally and with respect by all Kenyans including our esteemed leaders," the statement added.

Sabina Chege was among a breakaway group of leaders in the Jubilee Party who pledged their allegiance to the Kenya Kwanza administration.

The group led by East African Legislative Assembly MP Kanini Kega led an internal revolution which toppled former Ndaragwa MP Jeremiah Kioni from the party's Secretary-General position.

However, Azimio leaders did not take their move lightly. The coalition led by Orange Democratic Movement chief Raila Odinga expressed their disapproval of the shift in allegiance, describing them as traitors who were in pursuit of individual interest.

In addition, leaders loyal to the Azimio vowed to institute disciplinary proceedings against the breakaway group in a move aimed at curtailing divisions in the political formation.
