Migori senator, Eddy Oketch, on Thursday, February 9, called for the deregistration of Lang'ata MP Phelix Odiwuor (Jalang'o) from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party over his meeting with President William Ruto at State House.

In a letter filed by Aguko, Osman, and Company Advocates, the senator noted that the actions by the legislator did not embody the framework of the party.

He added that the leadership of the party had seven days to take disciplinary action against Jalango and the other alleged rebels.

"Their actions do not only fly on the face of the entire legal framework governing political parties' membership but have also caused immense embarrassment, ridicule, anxiety, and disgust among the members of the Orange Democratic Movement Party and its party leadership at large.

“It is our client's humble prayer that the Office of the Party Secretary General proceeds immediately, but in any case not later than 7 days from receipt of the letter to deem the members as having resigned and have their names struck off the Party Members Register,” the letter read in part.

Other members who were proposed for deregistration and punishment included Tom Ojienda, Gideon Ochanda, Caroli Omondi, Elisha Odhiambo, Paul Abuor, and Mark Nyamita.

"On February 2023, the members of the Orange Democratic Movement were treated to blatant and arrogant violation of the Party Constitution," the letter further stated.

The letter further noted that the ODM leaders mentioned had shown close association with political leaders of a different party before, during, and after the meeting with President William Ruto and Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

In a rejoinder, Jalang'o expressed his sentiments, pointing out that he would not be the last person to be deregistered should the appeal be affected.

"I might not be the first person neither will I be the last person to be kicked out," Jalango's chest thumped after he was kicked out of Azimio La Umoja's parliamentary group meeting in Machakos.

Jalango had earlier denied reports that he was given Ksh50 million by President William Ruto to dump former Prime Minister Raila Odinga adding that he was a loyal member of the ODM party.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, February 8, he explained that the said amount of money was meant for the construction of a college in his constituency.

"The President knows that I am a supporter of Raila and ODM. He even advised that I reveal details of our meeting as we were talking about development," Jalango stated to Ramogi TV.
